RESEARCH PROCEDURES:

Basic Reseach Procedures

1. TOPIC: State the topic that you want to use, your area of interest.

2. LITERATURE REVIEW: Find out what has already been done in the field that you want to research. It is hard to form a hypothesis unless you already know what has been done in your area of interest.

3. HYPOTHESIS: State the hypothesis of your research before you start. If you have not done so, your work is not considered an actual research study.

  • Define the problems in terms of a hypothesis, an educated guess, a proposed relationship of cause and effect.
  • Then, carefully and completely identify independent (cause), dependent variables (effect), and other variables that may be important (this is your hypothesis).
  • And then, briefly state why your hypothesis should be correct in terms of your expectation derived from your literature review.
Now, you can State your Hypothesis.

Clearly state your logic of the variables you have selected. It is important that your reader understands your reasoning of whatever approach you take.

4. RESEARCH DESIGN: State the study method, for example, survey, interview, etc. Provide the specifics of the sampling procedure, and measurement.
  • What method was used?
  • If questions were used, what questions did you use? It is ok to repeat the questions here.
  • How did you collect the data, etc?
  • State what method you are going to use.
If using software, books, and other materials to conduct this research, state it here.

5. DATA COLLECTION & DATA REVIEW: All data should already been collected so it is good to create a table and statistics here. Review each data to make sure that the record is accurate (such as birth data, birth time, and birth place are accuarate).

6. ACTUAL RESEARCH PROCEDURE: Explain in detail on how you are conducting this research, calculation technique used or methods, software use, etc. If you have an actual steps to follow, clearly state it here.

7. CONCLUSION OR RESEARCH RESULTS: Create a formal report of your results. This result should be carefully organized around the steps listed in step 6 and how you derived with this conclusion. Carefully if you are able to attain the actual result that you want based on your hypothesis. If the result was not conclusive, state so. You must include the actual result on your report.
